11.55AM UPDATE: A RIDE-BY robber has carried out 15 terrifying attacks on lone women, including pensioners, in just 21 days.
Police are now hunting the serial mugger, who rides up to his victims on a bike and then drags them to the ground as he snatches their handbags.

Extra police patrols are being mounted in the Bretton, Paston and Dogsthorpe areas where all of the attacks have been reported.

The string of robberies, believed to be committed by a white man, aged 16 to 20, riding a bicycle and wearing a dark hooded top, began on April 3 and the last two were reported yesterday.

In the latest incidents, a 54-year-old woman was approached from behind by a youth on a bike in Lavender Crescent, Dogsthorpe, at 12.30pm yesterday.

He pushed her into the road before wrenching her handbag from her grasp and cycling off.

And a second woman in her 50s was again approached by a youth on a bike who pulled her to the ground and snatched her handbag at just after 1pm in Benland, Bretton.

The first woman was not injured but the second woman was seriously injured and was taken to Peterborough District Hospital.

Detective Inspector Jon McAdam said: "Due to the similarity of these crimes and the description of the offender, we believe they may all be linked. The victims have mostly been women over the age of 50, but there was one victim who was 24.

"I would also urge women to be vigilant, and try not to carry handbags or purses on show."

Councillor David Sanders, who is a member of the police authority, said today: "Clearly these attacks have caused the victims huge trauma."

I have noticed when at home during the day that there seems to be a large number of youths on bikes hanging around the area at the moment - they seem to be there without purpose, and using the alley ways as rat runs. I have often seen them looking into vehicles for valuables. The number of broken car windows in this area in increasing. Don't remember the last time I saw a Police officer on patrol here.

Of course they know who it is - just don't ask them to arrest the person. That would involve them doing some Police work and not sitting round drinking tea.

I know very few people who have positive things to say about the Police. In this case there should be CCTV and some proactive Policing to get this little scumbag off the streets and let people live in peace.

if the police checked these young bikers out now and again i'm sure their efforts would be fruitful.
just to look at some of them on elegal bikes, being ridden on pathways, thease days there is no law on what a cyclist can do, come on you coppers put a bit of effort into this problem.

Policw on;t look at the young bikers as that would mean being proactive and is no doubt not a target they have to hit for monthly figures.

It's amazing the stories we can't post on with the ET. Why not make all stories able to be posted, whatever happened to freedom of speech?

As for the Lithuanian's - if you don't want housing get out. Question is why were they offered housing over the English on the list?

I blame Old Peterborezz. He mentioned immigrants on every thread for every story the other day - something like "why don't we blame this one on the immigrants?" Obviously the ET aren't going to encourage him any further!
