ARSONISTS are believed to have caused a fire in a stairwell of a block of flats last night (5 October).
Firefighters from three crews across the city, including the retained service of the Peterborough Volunteers, were called at about 9.20pm to the blaze.

They arrived to find rubbish on fire in a stairwell at Somerby Garth, Welland. The blaze was brought under control at around 10.15pm.

No one was injured in the incident, but a spokeswoman for the fire service said the cause of the blaze could be deliberate and then issued a warning.

She said: "This can cause serious damage to others.

"The council can remove rubbish if it's put in the correct place."
