A14 east open again - driver fights for his life

A lorry driver was left with life threatening injuries after his truck veered off the A14 and crashed into a ditch - closing the carriageway until the early hours of today.
The Volvo articluted lorry was travelling on the east bound carriageway of the A14 and was just west of the junction of New Road, at Hemingford Abbots, when the crash happened at 5.45pm yesterday (August 28).

The lorry cab caught fire and was destroyed. The driver, a 54-year-old man fom Grays in Essex, suffered serious injuries and was taken to Addenbrooke's Hospital, in Cambridge.

No other vehicles were involved.

The eastbound carriageway of the road was closed at the time of the crash and was not fully reopened until 4.30am today. There was traffic congestion in the hours just following the crash.

Police are appealing for witnesses to contact PC Steve Edwards, in the roads policing unit, on 0845 456 456 4.
