GUIDE Dog Week celebrations are coming to Peterborough on Tuesday with a team of experts handing out DVDs and leaftlets in Cathedral Square.
The East Anglia district team leads the way in helping local blind and partially sighted people by educating the city’s public and service providers on how to provide sighted guide assistance. They will be handing out complimentary Sighted Guiding DVDs and leaflets at the event, from 10.30am to 3pm.
Staff and volunteers will be highlighting that in potentially difficult situations, people with sight loss can sometimes need an extra helping hand to get around, even if they have a guide dog or use a cane.
The Sighted Guiding DVD and leaflet illustrate five helpful hints to enable people to feel confident in applying guiding techniques, should the need arise to offer assistance to a person with sight loss.
District team manager of Guide Dogs in East Anglia Pete Smith said: “By learning the simple guiding techniques detailed in our special free Sighted Guiding DVD and leaflet, many more people from the Peterborough area can provide this important assistance to local blind and partially- sighted people.”
