BURGLARS used oxyacetylene cutting equipment to steal £75,000 from a supermarket cash machine.
Police say CCTV footage at the Rainbow supermarket in Manning Road, Bourne, shows at least three offenders breaking in through a window at the backat 10pm on Thursday (August 21).

They carried in oxyacetylene cutting equipment and used to melt the hinges off a door in the back of an ATM machine. They then prised off the door and made off with £75,000 in unmarked notes.

DS Jon Shield said: "Our intelligence suggests this was carried out by a cross border gang of organised criminals operating in the East Midlands area and it is one of a series of very similar incidents.

"We are appealing to the public to come forward with information.

"We need anyone who saw any suspicious activity or vehicles in the area at that time to get in touch with us as soon as possible."

Anyone with any information can call Stamford Police Station on:(01780) 752222, quoting incident number 439 of August 21.

Why are CCTV images always so grainy? Surely nobody could recognise someone (particularly when wearing a disguise) in these pictures.
Do shops not think it is worth spending a few more pounds of decent cameras? If they helped get organised gangs into prison, they would pay for themselves pretty soon.

When my local pub was robbed the police said that there was nothing that they could do due to the CCTV pictures being unclear - these includes cameras paid for from a security company!
