CHRISTMAS came early for a for a stunned Peterborough woman who discovered she was pregnant just 90 minutes before giving birth to a surprise baby.
Sarah Wilkinson, the mother of a seven-year-old son, had been told she may never have another child because of a serious problem with her ovaries.
So baby Jack George Jones's unexpected arrival was a huge shock to Sarah and her fiance Martin Jones.
Now Sarah and Martin, both 26, of Wharf Road, Woodston, are looking forward to the most wonderful Christmas of all and Sarah's older son Ricky is delighted that he has a new baby brother. And next year, the couple will tie the knot.
Sarah was completely unaware she was pregnant - she put her weight gain down to lifestyle and thought her stomach cramps were a kidney infection.
Even her irregular periods did not spark concern, because she had been told by doctors after Ricky's birth that she had polycystic ovaries, which meant she might not be able to carry another child.
Sarah had complained of a stomach ache last Wednesday night, but went to bed as normal. However, the pains got worse and the following morning, Martin took her to Accident and Emergency at Peterborough District Hospital.
Nurses collected a urine sample and Sarah went outside for fresh air. But seconds later, she collapsed in agony and was rushed back inside.
Doctors tested the sample and then broke the news that left the pair gobsmacked - Sarah was pregnant and about to give birth at any moment.
An hour and a half later, at 4.05pm on November 19, midwives delivered baby Jack, who weighed a healthy 8lb 8oz pounds.
Sarah, who is recovering at her mother Veronica's house in Viscount Road, Fletton, said: "I feel fantastic now, but when it happened, it was crazy.
"It only sunk in when they were delivering the baby. I felt so happy. I thought I would never be able to have another baby. For it to happen and not knowing about it is incredible. I feel like I've been blessed. It will be a fantastic Christmas."
Dad Martin, a bus driver, said: "When they told us Sarah was pregnant, I was in shock. There isn't really a word for it.
"The first words she said to me when Jack was born were, "Merry Christmas, babe".
"It was scary but everyone at work and family pulled together and bought us stuff like nappies. I'm over the shock now and it feels overwhelming.
"Jack is like a gift from God and will make our Christmas."
