I know we got to Wembley twice but I can't remember being as excited about Posh since my first match – a 3-2 end of season win over Shrewsbury in 1976 when Posh lulled me into a false security.
I thought games would always be that entertaining and that Posh would always end up winning. That was so long ago even Tommy Robson was still playing.
Pre-match: I live in Bedfordshire so started driving to Essex at about 11am, arriving at about 12.30pm.
I was behind Barry Fry's mean machine and he nearly ran me over trying to park. An old mate, the ex-Posh boss John Still, had sorted me a ticket – he owes me after his Dagenham side put us out of the JPT – and it included a boardroom pass and fairplay to Hornchurch, they were welcoming and organised. .
Half-time report: The first half was awful and I thought the atmosphere was a bit subdued among both sets of fans – we didn't get it together at all and Hornchurch weren't much better.
They had one rightly disallowed for handball, but apart from that it was poor.
Half-time couldn't come soon enough, and at the break I phoned in a report on talkSPORT suggesting that bringing on the top scorer might be a good idea.
Full-time report: Darren obviously heard me and followed my instructions and instantly Craig made an impact.
Swanny's Match Report:
Hornchurch 0, Posh 1 - Keeper error hands Posh victory----------------
We were all over them but couldn't quite finish it off. Out of nowhere Big Joe made a fabulous save from the poseur in the orange boots up front for Hornchurch, and then in the last minute Boyd's shot forced a mistake from their keeper who'd had a good game up to that point, and CMS followed up.
His girlfriend, Miss Fry, was sitting next to me, and it was nice to be with someone who goes as crazy as I do when Posh score. Maybe if her dad had taken my advice and signed Craig when I first recommended him six years ago, love could have blossomed so much sooner, and Posh could have saved £125k...
Atmosphere: Best song was after the tannoy announced the bar was closed to Posh fans and the Hornchurch crowd sang: "You're not drinking anymore."
Brief summary of the match: Lewis made a terrific save, Boyd wasn't on his game but kept trying to do good things, Craig made a massive impact but Paul Coutts was really impressive. He's got a pass, never hides and can get physical as well – he was my man of the match.
I expected more from Dean Keates, it's the kind of game a player of his experience should be running, but he struggled to have an impact. And after hearing wonderful things about Russell Martin, I thought he was poor, hopefully that was a one-off.
Sources close to the manager tell me he likes Boyd down the middle, but I cannot agree. Maybe playing behind a front two, but never as one of the front two. Put him out left Darren, you know it makes sense.
Had he done that and started with CMS up front we would have won comfortably. But I'll take a last minute winner and progress to round two.
