10 YEARS AGO:
FOOTBALL: Manager Steve Evans left Stamford to join Boston United. Former Posh aces John Cozens and Trevor Quow were placed in temporary charge of the Daniels.
HOCKEY: Aggi Milner fired a controversial late goal as Town broke the Blueharts 2-1 in East Premier League action. He swept home a rebound from a Shayne Andrews strike that the opponents felt was 'illegally high'.

POSH: The dismissal of fiery full
-back Dean Hooper compounded Posh's misery after a 3-0 drubbing at Darlington in Division Three.

RUGBY: Borough banged in 23 unanswered points during a sizzling second-half showing to triumph 26-8 at Old Northamptonians. Scrum-half Colin Mayo and skipper Chris Phillips were among the scorers.

ICE HOCKEY: Pirates bowed out of the Benson & Hedges Plate despite bashing Fife 5-1. Rampant Randy Smith ran the show with a treble, but the game ended on a sour note when Nathan Rempel admitted assaulting a match official.

GREYHOUNDS: Local trainers Jeff and son Gary Adams scooped one of the biggest prizes in the business when sending out Notebook to win the 868m Evening Standard Television Trophy by a whopping 12 lengths.

RUGBY: Spalding crashed to their heaviest defeat for five years when going down 74-9 to Norwich despite having Borough legend John Williams in their side.

POSH: Local lad Craig Goldsmith, Nick Cusack and Keith Oakes grabbed the goals as Posh produced a polished performance to defeat Division Four leaders Burnley 3-0 at London Road.

CYCLING: Jeremy Harrison made a cracking return from a month-long injury lay-off to win the Peterborough Cycling Club's Slater Trophy hill climb.

ICE HOCKEY: Promising Scottish youngster Jim Ryan left the club to return to his homeland and long-serving netminder Ian Cade moved to Lee Valley.

GOLF: City starlet Jason Mitchell smashed the Milton course record with a smashing 67. The 18 year-old from Paston hoped to become a professional.

KARTING: Race ace Tim Parrott was crowned British champion at Snetterton, adding to the UK Cup he had won earlier in the year at the same venue.

SPEEDWAY: Five riders banged in maximums as Panthers smashed Long Eaton 68-28 at the Showground. Mick Poole, Kevin Hawkins, Ian Barney, Craig Hodgson and reserve Scott Norman were the main men.
