40 YEARS AGO: CRICKET: Fast bowler John Ford took all 10 wickets as Ramsey defeated St Giles. His outstanding figures of 10-42 were by far the best local bowling performance of the summer.
FOOTBALL: Pete Chappell cracked a hat-trick as Glinton inflicted a shock 5-1 defeat on Eye in the Peterborough League. Newalls lost 4-3 at Fletton despite another treble from Alan Elderkin.

POSH: Colin Garwood con
verted a Roger Wosahlo cross to find the net, but it wasn't enough to prevent a 2-1 defeat for Posh against rugged York at Bootham Crescent.

CRICKET: Jack Dore (5-44) and Geoff Dale (53no) played starring roles as Casuals beat British Rail by eight wickets in the Peterborough Cricket League.

POSH: The Reserves could find no way past former England international goalkeeper Ron Springett as they slipped to a 2-0 defeat at QPR Reserves. Springett made one miracle save to deny Peter Price.

CRICKET: Peterborough Town were held to a draw by Northants League runners-up rivals Finedon despite an unbeaten half-century from Tony Howorth (52no). Mike Taylor also hit 44 for Town.

30 YEARS AGO

POSH:
Some smashing saves from Keith Waugh and resolute defending by Bill Green and Ian Ross helped Posh hold top-flight Middlesbrough to a 0-0 draw and force a London Road replay in the second round of the League Cup.

CRICKET: Ron Weston completed a family treble when becoming the third Baker Perkins brother to hit a century this season. His unbeaten knock of 105 in a friendly against St Ives meant he could join siblings Jim and Alan in three-figure innings.

GOLF: Roger Butler was a clear winner of the Northants County Boys Championship with a cracking net score of 62. Thorpe Wood's Gary Goodale had to retire after just six holes with stomach pain.

FOOTBALL: Dave Clarke and John Durant hit the goals as Wisbech recorded their first victory of the season when taking derby glory against local rivals March 2-0.

ROLLER HOCKEY: Borough Wheelers finished runners-up in the Lennards Cup at Southsea for the second successive year, but Martin Parker and Geoff Staggs were the tournament's top scorers with eight goals apiece.

POSH: The club rejected an offer from Newport County for reserve central defender Keith Oakes while teenager Tony Cliss cracked all four goals in a 4-2 Posh Reserves win at Brentford.

20 YEARS AGO

POSH:
Mick Gooding's brace earned the city side a 2-2 draw at Carlisle in their Fourth Division opener. New defender Gerry McElhinney was man-of-the-match on his debut.

CRICKET: Steve Hair cracked an unbeaten half-century as Peterborough Town returned to winning ways in the Northants League with a six-wicket success over Kettering.

SPEEDWAY: Panthers were on course for a record victory when rain forced their clash against Arena Essex at the Showground to be halted.
