Do you remember when Lulu came to the Lansbury Club?

WERE you one of the 200 or more mods who used to enjoy bopping the night away at the Lansbury Club in Stamford in the '60s?
Did you see Lulu and the Lovers, The Kinks, The Pretty Things and Dave Berry and the Cruisers perform there, and do you remember the resident band Us Limited?
If yes, a reunion for all the cool young dudes who regularly attended the dance nights at the club is being organised on May 10.
Josie Smith, the daughter of Ron and Betty Green who organised the dances and bands at the Lansbury Club from 1962-65, is planning the reunion and wants to hear from anyone interested in attending.
"Mum and dad used to have a cut price grocery stall on Peterborough market when it was in Cathedral Square.
"They bought the Lansbury Club in the early '60s and then sat down and thought about what they were going to do with it.
"Having three teenage kids and living in Stamford they decided to organise dances and the like every Saturday night, because they realised there wasn't really very much for young people to do in the area.
"The club really took off and in the end they stopped doing the market and ran the club full time.
"We had a lot of famous bands come to the town to play at the club during that time and as we were the kids of the owners we got to meet most of them beforehand. Looking back it was really exciting, but of course we didn't really appreciate it at the time. I wish I could do it again now.
"All the bands were really nice, I remember that the time Lulu came was just when Shout was breaking into the chart and she was lovely."
Tickets for the reunion are available from Josie on 01780 720905 or from the newsagents in Red Lion Square, Stamford. They cost £8 and include a live performance for the Wrinkle Rock Band, a '60s disco and buffet.
Anyone interested in attending can either call Josie on the number above or e-mail her at jssmith1948@aol.com
