Friday (31 October) sees the official opening of Stamford's newest music venue – the Voodoo Lounge.
Situated underneath the main bar of Mama Liz's Soul Food Shack, the impressive venue has been decked out in artwork and simply oozes appeal.

It used to be a Victorian wine bottling cellar, and set among beautiful old brick arches, it is going to be a fine addition to the region as a whole.

The room features striking artwork from US artist Obey Giant – also known as Shepard Fairey.

First up is The Surgens, who have decided to call it a day after four years.

Co-venue owner Michael Houlihan said: "The band will christen the venue in what regrettably will be a farewell appearance from the band, who in their four year career have enjoyed airplay on BBC Radio 1 and 2.

"They have also played some very notable festivals, including Bestival on the Isle Of Wight."

The Surgens guitarist Steve Donovan said: "We've had a grand old time, but all good things must come to an end and we feel that the band has reached the end of its natural life.

"We would like to take this opportunity to thank all you kind souls who've supported us over the years and to invite you all to our last ever gig."

Support will come from The Dirty Backbeats and the Cockroach Club legends from Leicester. DJs Zed and Jim of Eclectic Ballroom will also be there playing the dirtiest jazz, soul, funk and disco breaks to be found anywhere.

Then on Saturday, the awesome Pogues covers band Dead Rabbits take to the stage. The band have had actual members of The Pogues come and guest with them in the past and their gigs are the stuff of legend.

Support comes from Quest, which are Thornton Holmes and Kathryn Moore, formerly of Bigfoot with DJ Gen playing Rockabilly and Americana classics.

Michael added: "The venue is really excellent, adorned with original Obey artwork, and we hope for a big turnout to give it the opening weekend it deserves.

"There is also a very impressive programme of events for the coming months, which will be announced in the near future. This includes guest DJs and comedians."

Both weekend gigs are free to enter from 7.30pm. People should arrive early. Mama Liz's Soul Food Shack is in North Street, Stamford.
