REMEMBER the name – Fenech Soler. These three young musicians are looking set to become one of the big breakthrough acts of 2009.
Already this month they have been band of the day in both The Times and The Guardian, and a slot at next week's In The City new music showcase in Manchester will see their profile rise yet again.
In recent memory, Peterborough bands including Mesh 29, Revenue, Dirty Little Faces and The Brays have given national stardom a crack, but Fenech Soler have the electronic edge.
Their mySpace page states their only influence is Michael Jackson, and the King of Pop's slick production style is apparent on Fenech Soler's latest tracks – White Hearts and The Cult Of The Romance.
According to The Guardian's new music editor Paul Lester, Fenech Soler "sound as though they've just stepped out of a hi-tech recording palace in LA, Paris or London. If they don't become huge stars or cult-cred dance-pop heroes by the start of next year we'll eat our (collective) hat."
Made up of brothers Ben and Ross Duffy and friend Dan Francis, they met in Oundle, where they went to the town's Prince William School.
They are no strangers to the Peterborough live music scene, and have support slots with Does It Offend You, Yeah?, Late Of The Pier and South Central, already under their belts.
Deaf By Stereo co-promoter, Rachel Devlin, who booked Fenech Soler for the above gigs, said: "They have it all. The Late Of The Pier support went down particularly well.
"I remember one girl come up to me after the Late Of The Pier show and say she had never seen people dance in The Met Lounge before. She was shocked to turn around and see the crowd going crazy, and it wasn't even for the headliners!
"They are young, confident and in touch will current musical trends. Their sound is now, and I think a lot more people are going to hear about them."
This summer, Fenech Soler played the Secret Garden Party, near Huntingdon, and have also received high praise and airplay from XFM DJ and promoter Eddy Temple Morris.
Peterborough music photographer Mike Harris added: "I''m not surprised they are getting a lot of attention. They are effing brilliant. I photographed them at the Met Lounge with Does it Offend You, Yeah? I thought that on the night they were outstanding, easily the best band."
Fenech Soler are due to headline The Met Lounge on Friday, December 12.For more information, visit
