PETERBOROUGH band The Brays missed out on a singles chart position this week despite selling enough copies to break the Top 100 with ease.
Guitarist Matt Seddon explains what happened to single Sin.
"We sold close to 1,000 hard copies of our CD, and when combined with the downloads, we would have comfortably charted in the UK Top 100 this week," he said.
But the high volume of sales at Peterborough's Zavvi stores meant the The Official UK Charts Company had to verify this large increase at one of its data providing stores.
Matt added: "Millward Brown, the market research company that represent the chart company, contacted Zavvi at 5.30pm to see if there was a reason for the unusually high amounts of sales.
"Unfortunately, due to being particularly busy at that time, the phone call was missed, and as a result, the sales could not be verified in time for inclusion in the charts.
"There is no blame being pointed anywhere, as Zavvi have been absolutely superb to us, and the band want to say a massive thank-you to them for everything they've done.
"But it is a cruel twist of fate, and a disappointing end to an exciting ride which has denied us a chart position."
However, Matt said there are several positives from the week which saw them perform to huge crowds in Peterborough's Queensgate centre to promote Sin.
"We were the fourth highest selling product in Zavvi across the UK this week. Only Metallica, Oasis and Kings of Leon beat us.
"And we have also made loads of new friends along the way, and are looking forward to seeing everyone again at a gig soon."
