A DEFINITIVE guide to more than 100 years of family history in a Peterborough district has been compiled in a book by a talented wordsmith.Margaret Brewster, of New Road, Woodston, has compiled more than a lifetimes worth of history and compacted it into her new book, Woodstone 1841-1945.

It has taken five years for Margaret to complete her work, which features interesting extracts and information on a range of families who have lived in the district.

Margaret decided to write the book due to her passion for family history, and to complete it, she spent a vast amount of time at Woodston Cemetery, in New Road, where she spent hundreds of hours painstakingly writing down names of its occupants and linking them to existing families.

She said: "I was going to make a complete reference of all the people in Woodston Cemetery, but I thought I was recognising similar names from people I know.

"So I started to talk to them and it all went from there. It has taken a lot of time to complete, but I'm delighted with it and I have really enjoyed writing the book.

"As far as I'm concerned, it's 100 years of family history in Woodston, with a combination of different people in there, such as the Robertsons, who lived in Palmerston Road.

"I've found some fascinating people while researching them, including Arthur Robertson, who was an Olympic Great Britain cyclist team member. He competed at the 1908 Summer Olympics in London."

About 100 copies of the book have been made available, but in the short time since they were published, potential buyers have already shown interest from around the world.

"Selling is going very well at the moment, and I've had people buying it from Canada and Australia, which really is great." said Margaret, who works full-time at Peterborough District Hospital.

n Copies of the book, which costs 9.99, can be bought by calling Margaret on 01733 554666 or by visiting www.fast-print.net/store.php
