LAST-minute preparations are underway as Werrington Carnival organisers make sure everything is ready for the event's ruby anniversary on Saturday. The hugely popular event, which started out as little more than a fete in a small field, turns 40 this year.
And organisers say they are set to produce the biggest and best carnival ever.
Nigel Green, who has been involved in the carnival for 28 years, said he hoped families will flock to the day.
He said: "We have marching bands, featuring the Melton Mowbray Toy Soldiers, the 13th City of Coventry Scout Marching Band and, back by popular demand, the Fidgety Feet roaming jazz band.
"This year's arena and stage band will feature Peterborough's own Second Drove, and we have street dancers and troupes from The Voyager and Ken Stimpson as well.
"It's going to be brilliant, and we have hopefully priced it right so mums and dads don't get hit too hard in the pocket."
The judging of the parade begins at 1pm, in Wells Close, and will set off at 1.30pm and then proceed through Church Street, ending up on the Amberley Slope playing fields at 2pm.
The arena will feature marching bands and dancers in a programme of entertainment.
There will also be many charity stalls.
Entrance costs 1, with children aged three and under going free.
Already Werrington has been transformed with the bunting and decorations put in place yesterday.
Mr Green added: "The only thing we can't guarantee is the weather, but we have looked at the forecast and it looks OK.
"It was really hot last year, so it would be nice if we can have the same again, especially in this special year."
The carnival also boasts evening entertainment, but this is purely ticket only, during which there will be a hog roast at the Werrington Village Centre.
The evening event starts at 8pm and finishes at 11.30pm and will include a disco, but visitors will need to bring their own drink.
Tickets cost 8 for adults and 4 for children and there is a vegetarian option.
n Tickets can be obtained by calling either Lisa Alexander-Smith, on 01733 742261, Nigel Green, on 01733 576167, Tim Pond, on 01733 701925, or Rachael Dudley, on 01733810561.
