THE ever-popular Deeping Gang Show is getting nearer with the final preparations well underway.

Members of Stamford and Bourne District Scouts and Bourne Division Girlguiding battled through the snow on Sunday for the full dress rehearsal in Deeping St James.

The show will run at the Deeping School, in Park Road, Deeping St James from February 15 to 18.

This year’s theme is the momentous year of 2012 which will celebrate events due to take place this year including the Olympics in London and the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

Steve Canham, publicity manager for the show, said: “Preparations are going really well everyone is very much looking forward to do it.

“They are picking up on the big events of this year so there is quite an England and world theme running through it.

“People can expect to enjoy a wide range of items including musical numbers from West End shows and even some Buddy Holly.”

The cast of the show includes 65 Cubs, Brownies, Scouts, Guides, Explorers, Young Leaders and Leaders from the Deepings, Thurlby, Bourne and Stamford areas.

The performances will also celebrate the 80th year since the first-ever Gang Show, which took place in London and was produced by the late Ralph Reader. A medley of songs by him will be performed at the performance.

The Deeping Gang Show, which first started in 1986, was given national recognition in 1992 by the Scout Association, an honour which only goes to the best performances across the country.

This was reassessed in 2003 and the show received the recognition again.

Tickets are selling fast with the Saturday matinee already a full house.

They are £7.50 adult and £5 child on Wednesday and Thursday performances and £8 for everyone on Friday and Saturday nights.

The group does not make any profit from the show. All the money taken from ticket sales goes into putting the performance on for next year’s Gang Show.

To buy tickets call the box office manager Liz Harrison on 01778 343443.
