Play: Caruso And The Monkey House Trial at The Stahl

AN UNUSUAL concept for a one-man play, Caruso And The Monkey House Trial revisits the sensational trial of one of the world’s most famous operatic tenors.

Based on a true story, Tenor Enrico Caruso is accused of molesting an unknown woman at the Central Park Zoo in New York. Both his reputation and whole career is at stake.

With text drawn from contemporary newspaper accounts, the audience plays the jury and must pass judgement: did Caruso commit an act of gross indecency?

Was he a notorious womaniser or the victim of police entrapment?

The talented Ignacio Jarquin returns to The Stahl, in Oundle, by popular demand in a new collaboration with Andrew G Marshall, and featuring live singing from Puccini and Verdi.

Prodigal Theatre’s Caruso and the Monkey House Trial is at the Oundle venue this Wednesday, 11 January. Tickets cost £9.50 from 01832 273930.
