Hampton: Rave reviews for dramatic show
Hampton Amateur Theatre Society has been celebrating after receiving rave reviews of its annual show last weekend.
Hampton Amateur Theatre Society has been celebrating after receiving rave reviews of its annual show last weekend.The group held three performances of Who Cares, Wins during the weekend, with large crowds attending on each evening, including their first ever charity performance on Thursday.
The group was raising money for Sue Ryder Care Thorpe Hall Hospice because a number of members had relatives affected by cancer.
Among the audience enjoying the show on the Thursday was Peterborough Mayor Cllr Pat Nash.
The play was a two-act production, with many of the props and scenery made by the cast and crew themselves.
And the group received a glowing report from the National Operatic and Dramatic Association (NODA).
Representative from NODA, Michael Williamson, said in his review: "Both plays were very funny and there were some excellent individual performances. The first, which took place in a hospital setting, displayed an impressive array of props, equipment and effects which added considerably to the atmosphere.
"The second play moved at a faster pace to a hilarious conclusion and Julie Jordan and Giselle Rawlins were especially well paired in the central roles. This was a great team effort, and included some splendid silent, and not so silent, byplay from Kevin Hughes. Both productions were a great credit to the company."
Mr Williamson also praised a number of the cast and crew for their strong performances throughout the production.
Giselle Rawlins, who starred in both of the productions, said that the weekend had gone better than expected.
She said: "We had a fantastic time and were really excited. We all worked so hard to make it what the audience saw and were thrilled with the results."
The group is now preparing for its end of run celebrations, when they enter one of the acts into the Hunstanton Drama Festival.
Miss Rawlins said: "We are looking forward to the festival in Hunstanton. We are looking forward to letting our hair down after all the hard work.
"We will then be taking a break and reconvening in a few weeks, and looking to do another comedy play in the spring."
Miss Rawlins also thanked Dennis Baldry at Serpentine Green, who sponsored the production.
The team is still counting the money raised for the charity on Thursday, and hope to be able to announce the final figure in the near future.
