Dance class needs future funding help
A DANCE teacher needs financial support to help keep her weekly Whittlesey class up and running.
Around 25 people attend Maureen Hustwitt’s class for the over 50s at the Manor Leisure Centre in Whittlesey each Thursday.
The classes were set up three years ago by the National Lottery-funded Living Sport, the county sports partnership for Cambridgeshire.
Living Sport’s involvement and funding will come to an end on March 31 which means dancers will have to pay more to attend each session.
Maureen, who has International Dance Teachers Association qualifications and has been teaching classes for 18 years, said: “This has been my passion for all this time and it’s working really well. What it has done for the confidence of some of those who attend is just incredible.
“Ideally, I would like to get the numbers up to around 50 a session to help costs.”
The two-hour classes integrate line, sequence, ballroom and Latin American dance styles. At the moment sessions cost £1.50.
Anyone who can help Maureen should send an email to maureen.hustwitt@talk21.com.
