Two awards for male voice choir

MEMBERS of a Peterborough choir are celebrating after scooping a brace of honours in a national awards scheme.

Peterborough Male Voice Choir has won two awards in the Epic Awards 2011.

The scheme is run by Voluntary Arts, the development agency arts participation in the UK.

The choir, which rehearses at St Mary’s Church, in New Road, collected the Judges’ Award for innovation, engagement and creative development and was voted the most popular arts group in England via an online poll in the People’s Award.

Secretary Andy Coles said: “This is such an honour for us. I was so pleased to hear that the choir’s work has been recognised by such a significant arts body.

“We have had two unprecedented years of growth for the male voice choir and we have also been involved in the formation of two more choirs - our ladies’ choir, Peterborough Voices, and the Peterborough Youth Choir.”

Director Will Prideaux described it as a “feather in the cap for Peterborough”.
