Review: 'Greatest Hits' by Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band
(Sony Music) BRUCE and his old muckers the E Street Band, are the Saturday headliners at Glastonbury this year and no doubt they will be delighting the crowd with some rousing renditions of old favourites from his back catalogue.

Fans of The Boss tend to be a special breed and won't have much need for another greatest hits collection. They'll already have all the songs and probably several different versions of them.
But as a starting point for new fans this is an excellent album. It features 18 tracks – including two bonus tracks from the sprawling 5-LP boxset 1975 -1985 Live.
It kicks off with the skittish helter-skelter energy of Blinded By The Light and ends with the powerful but restrained Long Walk Home.
It includes the classic Springsteen song Born To Run along with another track from that classic album Thunder Road.
The latter is, if it is possible, even more majestic.
His songs are always exhilarating but often have a more sombre edge such as Darkness On The Edge Of Town and Badlands.
A personal favourite is the soaring The River , which like many of his best songs is a mini-novel set to rock music that engages the head, heart and body all at the same time.
The much misunderstood Born In The USA and Dancing In The Dark prove his ability to pen radio-friendly anthems.
The only criticism is that many of his great songs are not included here, but for new fans those are treasures waiting to be discovered.
