FROM a Dickens classic brought to life on the stage to lessons in Bollywood dancing, a rich array of creative activities were enjoyed as part of a week-long arts festival in the city.
Peterborough Regional College (PCR) and University Centre Peterborough, in Park Crescent, organised the festival, which was held last week.
It was the second time that Peterborough Arts Fest has taken place following on from a successful debut in 2010.
Nicola Martin, curriculum manager for performing arts and art and design, said its aim was to bring the community together to enjoy the arts.
She said: “It’s a collaborative effort across our arts and humanities area, but it’s also a way of integrating the community as well.
“It’s about getting people involved in arts and raising the profile of arts in Peterborough and getting everyone involved in whatever way we can.”
With this in mind, a wide range of workshops were run for primary schoolchildren and college students. These included Bollywood dancing workshops and theatre sessions about Shakespeare’s Twelth Night organised for pupils currently studying the play.
Performing arts students celebrated the 200th year of Charles Dickens’ birth with performances of Oliver! at PRC.
Ms Martin added: “The festival has been a great success.
“The events enabled learners to engage in specialist workshops and benefit from training with industry professionals.”
