Make a date to volunteer

YOUNG people will be set up with volunteering opportunities at a link-up event on Friday. The New Skills Volunteer Speed Matching sees volunteering charity CSV team up with V, the youth volunteering charity, and Tesco to recruit 20 full-time "community catalyst" volunteers as part of the Agents4Change campaign.

The catalysts will be encouraging other young people, aged between 16 and 25, to get involved in projects in 20 different locations around the country.

The event takes place at Peterborough Regional College on Friday, January 11, between 11am and 4pm.

There will be two speed matching sessions on the day, the first starting at 11am and the second at 1.30pm.

There will also be a walk-in session at 12.30pm, where people who have not had the chance to sign up for one of the sessions, but would like information on volunteering projects can go along for a chat.

The event will have all the characteristics of speed dating, including score sheets, a stop watch, and "daters" moving from table to table on four-minute whistle sounds.

Volunteer staff will match "yes" and "maybe" scores after the event, and set up second "dates".

The organisations involved include those working with homeless people and people with learning difficulties to animals and conservation projects, so there is guaranteed to be an opportunity for everyone.

Refreshments will be provided.
