Burghley’s royal seat to see Games

Burghley House will be offering visitors a unique take on Britain’s Olympic year, including the chance to sit in the most scenic place to watch the London 2012 Games.

Staff the Elizabethan stately home in Stamford will be throwing a Great Olympic Garden Party every day during the London Games.

With the magnificent house as the backdrop, a giant screen in Burghley’s normally closed private South Gardens will relay TV coverage from July 28 to August 11.

Visitors will be able to watch it as part of normal house and gardens admission.

A spokeswoman for Burghley said access to the screen would be available from 10am to 10pm with last admission at 6pm. Special late night tickets after 6pm would be at a reduced rate.

A special Olympic Pass will also be available covering the whole period, while day tickets will be given as wristbands in the colours of the Olympic Rings.

Visitors who collect all five will get free admission for the rest of the period.

Burghley will also be joining in celebrations for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee in June.
