MORE than 100 dignitaries attended the VIP opening of a new art gallery in Peterborough city centre.

Opportunity Peterborough director of economic development Neil Darwin officially opened Harriets Art Gallery, located above Harriets Tearooms in Cumbergate, at a champagne reception on Tuesday evening.

The new gallery features a wide variety of work from local artists, with paintings, prints, sculptures and jewellery all on display on opening night.

Mayor of Peterborough Cllr Paula Thacker, Peterborough City Council chief executive Gillian Beasley and Mayor’s Consort Ray Dobbs were among the visitors to the gallery, which is the brainchild of Dawn Birch-James, of antique and furniture firm Active Interiors.

She said: “It was a fantastic evening and we sold a lot of art. The feedback we had was amazing.”
