Show: Faye steps in to singer Eva's shoes

A MUSICAL play about the sad but uplifting life of singer Eva Cassidy will be coming to the Key Theatre, Peterborough.

A MUSICAL play about the sad but uplifting life of singer Eva Cassidy will be coming to the Key Theatre, Peterborough.Former pop-singer Faye Tozer from Steps, stars as Eva, and Irish singing sensation Rose-Marie, plays her mother Barbara.

Over The Rainbow is a poignant and moving story which features 27 of Eva's best-loved songs. It has received rapturous receptions and standing ovations throughout the UK and Ireland, and was also a huge hit in Holland. It is now destined for the Middle East and other territories throughout the world.

By the time of her premature death at the age of just 33, Eva Cassidy was unknown outside her home of Washington, but within four years Terry Wogan discovered and promoted her haunting interpretation of the song Somewhere Over The Rainbow to the top of the chart.

This compelling, award-winning musical play journeys through her life, from her idyllic childhood growing up in a musical family, to her studio work with boyfriend and mentor Chris Biondo, to the exuberant live recording of Blues Alley and finally to her tragic death.

Her album Imagine came straight in at Number 1, ahead of international singing stars Robbie Williams and Beyonce, and her interpretations have received accolades from Roberta Flack, Mick Fleetwood and Sting, making her the only female artist ever to receive three posthumous Number 1 albums.

Over The Rainbow is at The Key Theatre from Tuesday, October 14 to Saturday, October 18.

Tuesday evening and Saturday matinee costs 16 (13.50 concessions); Wednesday and Thursday evenings 17 (14.50 concessions), Thursday matinee 15 (12.50 concessions), Friday: 18 (no concessions), Saturday evening 19 (no concessions). Bookings on 01733 552439.
