Review: The Brays + Feeder (Renegades) at Monto Water Rats, London

WITH a confident swagger and an air of excitement, The Brays proudly rolled onto the stage like men on a mission – a mission to entertain. Not in some pseudo Robbie Williams type way, but in a manner which completely justified their slot alongside one of Britain's biggest rock bands.

The Peterborough-based five piece have a huge reputation for putting on a quality show, a reputation which is forever growing stronger in the capital.

This is defined best by the fact that The Brays were hand picked to play after Feeder – who were embarking on the fourth night of a short tour under their side-project name of Renegades, at this small, but lively, venue on Friday (29 January).

Although preparing to launch a new Feeder album later this year, the Welsh rockers decided to road test new tracks from their Renegades EP.

And it proved a popular decision for this packed crowd of revellers, who enjoyed every minute of their hour-long set.

If you were someone who only got into Feeder in recent years, you might have been slightly surprised by the raw energy and power on show.

But this was a show for the die-hard fans, taking them back to the heavy days of the band's early success in the late nineties, much to the delight of the crammed crowd.

Supported by a 60-strong crowd of their own fans, The Brays were in an excitable mood and quickly had the audience partying on the dance floor, when Feeder finished.

There were way too many highlights to mention, but a special shout out has to go to the band's forthcoming single, This Is It Now, which had the majority of the frenzied crowd singing the lyrics back to the impressive rockers.
