Review: Perfect punk rock cocktail

Sammy's Fatal Mistake - Rights, Responsibility and the Promise of Instant Gratification CD

Sammy's Fatal Mistake - Rights, Responsibility and the Promise of Instant Gratification CDTHIS is an awesome CD.

City DIY punks Sammy's Fatal Mistake are a four-piece (James, Phil, Jordy and Dave) who have been ripping up venues nationwide for a couple of years now.

There brand of positive hardcore is laced with melody, speed, passion and aggression – the perfect punk rock cocktail in other words.

This is their first "proper" release" and follows two self-released CD-Rs.

The track Republica opens with the call to arms – "Rise up, fight you anywhere". It is a blistering plea for direct action wrapped in a perfect punk song.

INITONIT (named after a legendary Peterborough-based fanzine) and Armed To The Teeth take different perspectives on similar themes and then spit their message out in under three minutes. And the sweeping guitar on Armed To The Teeth is magnificent.

The band's convictions shine through with every riff, infectious chorus, and with six songs in 16 minutes it never threatens to outstay it's welcome. More bands should relalise that less is more.
