A MULTI-MILLION pound, 90,000-seat, national football stadium will play host to a Peterborough artist’s work.
Painter Tony Nero (54) has been asked to display some of his work at a show called Black History Live at the iconic Wembley Stadium.
The weekend event, on Saturday and Sunday, October 1 and 2, will kick start Black History Month and Tony, of Alexandra Road, Dogsthorpe, is delighted to be part of the exhibition.
He said: “I am over the moon to be a part of this exciting event and to have this opportunity to take my Black Heroes collection of paintings to Wembley.
“Since first showing this collection of work in 2008 at Peterborough Town Hall, the collection appears to be taking me on a journey and is rapidly growing, with two new pieces added this year.”
His work to be displayed includes portraits of some of the most famous and inspiring black people in history, from Bob Marley to Malcolm X and Nelson Mandela.
But it also includes lesser known faces, but no less inspiring, such as Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Cambridgeshire Cliff Walker.
Around 15 of Tony’s paintings will be exhibited at Black History Live which will celebrate black history, culture, food and other aspects of life.
Music will be provided by the likes of the London Community Gospel Choir and award-winning Tunde Jegede.
Around 20,000 people are expected to pass through the hallowed halls of Wembley during the course of the weekend, with many setting eyes on Tony’s work.
He said: “I would say this is the biggest exhibition I’ve ever been part of. It’s absolutely brilliant and really exciting
“I was personally asked by one of the organisers to show my work at the event.
“I knew her when I was living in London and she came to an exhibition I held there earlier this year and asked me after that.
“I’m really proud to be doing this.”
The original paintings Tony will be exhibiting are not for sale but prints are available either from his website www.tonynerobrushworks.com
