Oundle Carnival back after 30 years

ALL the fun, colour and noise of the carnival is returning to Oundle on Saturday, 20 June after a 30-year absence.

ALL the fun, colour and noise of the carnival is returning to Oundle on Saturday, 20 June after a 30-year absence. The idea is to bring together all of the residents of Oundle and surrounding villages to enjoy a day that has something for everyone.

And organisers have given the event, which ties in with the town's fun day, a hero theme.

Hundreds of people are expected to gather in Milton Road to watch a parade of floats wind its way around the town, from noon.

Then attention will move to Oundle Rugby Club fields, when the carnival will be officially opened at 1.30pm.

It will then be time for a jazzercise show; Appalachian dancers; a 5k sponsored race; pet show; Spitfire fly-past; performance from the Yarwell and Nassington brass band; tug-of-war competition; majorettes display and lots more.

The British Lions rugby match against South Africa will also be shown in the clubhouse from 2pm.

Shonaleigh Cumbers, one of the foremost storytellers on the British scene, will be representing Oundle Festival of Literature at the carnival with her spellbinding performances, which allow the audience to enter the world of myth, history and imagination.

Storytelling sessions will take place at the rugby club grounds between 1.30pm and 4.30pm.

In the evening there will be performances from The Idunoes, Five String Thing, Caribbean Harmonics Steel Band and The Past Masters.

Concert-goers will be invited to bring along a rug, chairs and their own picnics, and there will be a barbecue and food stalls available, as well as a full bar operating from the rugby club.

See www.oundlecarnival.co.uk for further details, including the parade route and photos from previous events.
