GLAMOROUS models strutted their stuff at a glittering ceremony on Friday as men and women vied to represent Peterborough in a national competition.

The final of the Miss and Mr Peterborough contest was held at the Holiday Inn, in Thorpe Wood, with Chelsea Fitzpatrick (21) and Matt Pennells (23) taking home the coveted crowns.

Organiser Debora Burbage said: “It was an absolutely fantastic evening. It was brilliantly supported by the public who all dressed up to the nines and made it look wonderful.

“The show itself was phenomenal and definitely topped last year.”

The contestants had to compete in four rounds to wow the judging panel, which included X-Factor finalist Nicole Lawrence.

They were first introduced to the crowd wearing a simple jeans and red top ensemble - the uniform synonymous with the Miss England competition.

Next, the nine women and four men wore their take on “eco-wear”, in the Miss and Mr Trashion competition.

They had to make their own outfit out of recycled items or reused clothing with Chelsea and Matt both winning the round.

Chelsea’s was made out of chicken wire decorated with daisies and a little basque skirt and bikini underneath.

Matt made trousers and a tie out of bubble wrap and wore a charity shop shirt.

The third round was sportswear-themed, while the final round featured classic evening wear with the ladies in ballgowns and the gents in suits or dinner jackets.

The runners-up in the women’s competition were Jayde Lindsey (22) and Harriadnie Bauphipps (17), with Andy Phillips coming second in the men’s contest.

Matt is now through to the final of Mr England, while Chelsea will represent the city at the semi-finals in Leicestershire on June 13.
