IN a few months time they will be heading out on tour with Groove Armada. It's fair to say the last 18 months have been hectic for Fenech-Soler.Starting off with a handful of support slots at the Peterborough Met Lounge, the electro-indie band have now started to pick up national attention including radio plays by Zane Lowe, Annie Mac and Pete Tong.
Now expanded to a four piece (drummer has Andrew Lindsay has joined up with Daniel Francis and brothers Ben and Ross Duffy), Fenech-Soler have become a formidable live act.
In their short career to date, the group has supported the likes of Calvin Harris, Late Of The Pier, The Presets, The Whip and Does It Offend You, Yeah?
But all this looks set to be topped by the October Groove Armada tour (dates are still being finalised) which will tie in with the release of their second single Lies.
The Guide spoke to lead singer Ben, who lives in Kings Cliffe and went to school in Oundle, about the year so far.
He also looked ahead to next week's gig – their first 2009 date in Peterborough.
For the most part of the year, they have been locked away in the studio moulding their debut album, but Ben revealed that they have been getting a steady amount of support from the names that matter.
"We have just signed our next single to Andy George and Jamo's Radio One label Moda Music," he said. "I think this will give us a really good boost for the rest of the year.
"We seem to be making some good friends at Radio One which obviously helps. We are working with some really great producers on the album as well.
"Also, we have recently been doing some writing for Groove Armada's new album and they have been kind enough to take us out on tour so dates are being put together for October.
"We then want to get the album out in 2010. It's more of a summer record, than a winter one."
It all started at the Peterborough Met Lounge, with a few early shows.
Their first major gig was at the Stamford Riverside Festival in 2007, and just a few months later they wowed a packed Met Lounge with back-to-back shows supporting Does It Offend You, Yeah? and Late Of The Pier.
But what's been their band highlight so far? Ben said it was at London's Lovebox festival a couple of weeks back.
"We did it with N*E*R*D, such an amazing live act, that's the definite highlight for the band.
"The Presets were a personal favourite as well when we supported them at the Camden Electric Ballroom last autumn," he said.
Playing shows with such established acts has put Fenech Soler in good stead for the future, and Ben revealed they had strong aspirations from the start.
"I think all of us have been really pleased with the reaction we've had so far, especially from press and radio," he said.
"We started out playing our first shows here in Peterborough, and we soon realised that we had the ambition to make a great debut album.
"It's always been about creating something in a very D.I.Y fashion, but at the same time having as much fun as possible."
"We love taking what we do in the studio and trying to make it translate in a live environment.
"We've had some great shows in Peterborough, so we are looking forward to playing at the Met again."
Tickets for next Friday's Met Lounge show cost 5 from www.wegottickets.com or 01733 571616.
Support is from ZX, Paris Like This and The Kitchen Club. Doors open at 8pm, and it's open to 14+, though under 16's must be accompanied by an adult. To listen to Fenech-Soler head to www.myspace.com/fenechsoler.
