ALTHORP has announced its biggest literary festival yet with high profile personalities from the worlds of politics appearing alongside rock legends. The Althorp Literary Festival is celebrating its sixth anniversary with a stellar cast of novelists, journalists, historians, rock stars and biographers.
The festival is also delighted to announce two special events tonight – Sandi Toksvig's acclaimed one-woman show and TV darling Fern Britton talking about her life and career.
All events are situated in the grounds of the Althorp Estate, near Northampton, making it a perfect day out today, tomorrow or Sunday.
Leading the weekend's programme of events is journalist and political spin-doctor, Alastair Campbell, and one half of daytime TV's favourite duo Richard Madeley, who looks at his relationship with his father – while rock legend Rick Wakeman and '60s icon Pattie Boyd give their own unique insights into the world of rock 'n' roll.
They will discuss their recent work alongside appearances by top historians including Simon Schama and Andrew Roberts.
Meanwhile master story-teller Bernard Cornwell is joined by eminent historian Juliet Barker to explore his latest novel, Agincourt.
Former children's laureate Anne Fine and author of the hilarious Killer Cat books leads the children's strand of the festival, while award-winning illustrator of The Gruffalo, Axel Scheffler, shares a story or two and draws some pictures.
For bookings call 01604 770107, or visit www.althorp.com. Both Sandi Toksvig and Fern Britton are giving their talks at 6.30pm today.
