Friday, August 17 – Pogues members Andrew Ranken and Spider Stacy played at the opening night of the Randall Rootz Festival, organised in memory of talented city percussionist Mark Randall, who died of cancer in February. Mark had been a member of Pogues tribute The Dead Rabbits, who joined the Ranked and Stacy on stage.

Tuesday, August 21 to Saturday, August 25 – The Peterborough Beer Festival, the largest of its kind in the country, featured more than 350 real ales. More than 30,000 people visited The Embankment over the course of the event, which featured dozens of home-grown musical acts alongside The Counterfeit Stones on the Saturday night.

Saturday, September 1 and Sunday, September 2 – Michael Ball and UB40 play to thousands at the Embankment for two of the year's biggest concerts.

Ball played a series of showtunes on Saturday, while UB40 ran through their globally successful hits on Sunday.

Wednesday, September 12 – Stephen Gateley made his debut in Godspell, which appeared at the Key Theatre before touring the rest of the country.

"I wanted to do something people weren't expecting of me," he told The Guide.

Thursday, September 27 – High School Musical smashed previous box office records at The Cresset theatre and proved to be one of the biggest shows of the year for the city. Thousands of people went to the show to see a slick production of the Disney phenomenon.

Sunday, September 30 – Scroobius Pip vs Dan Le Sac brought their spoken word hip- hop to The Met Lounge as one of the launch events for new promotion company Deaf By Stereo.

Saturday, October 20 and Sunday, October 22 – Billy Connolly made his first city appearance for decades, and was a resounding hit with audiences, earning a five-star review from the ET in the process.

Friday, October 26 – Dave Pearce appeared at Liquid and Envy to mark 10 years of his Dance Anthems show.

"I started at a south west London station called Radio Jackie," he told The Guide.

"It was a good place to start, but it was hard. The aerials were in trees and places like that, so one of my first jobs was standing by them, and if any police came along you had to wrap it all up and run off with it."

Sunday, November 4 – The Pigeon Detectives played a sold-out show at The Cresset theatre. Tickets changed hands on internet auction sites for more than 100, making the gig one of the hottest the city had seen for years.

Tuesday, December 4 – The cast of BBC Radio 4's I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue made an appearance at the city's Broadway Theatre. Humphrey Lyttleton chaired the recording of two episodes of the smash show, which included regular panelists Graeme Garden and Barry Cryer alongside guests Jack Dee and Andy Hamilton.

Thursday, December 6 – The Key Pantomime opened, ushering in a season of festive productions that has seen The Chuckle Brothers perform in Aladdin at The Broadway Theatre, and Bobby Crush, Daniel Brocklebank and Oliver Farnworth appear in The Cresset's production of Jack And The Beanstalk.

Friday, December 14 – Hotly-tipped Does It Offend You, Yeah? brought the roof down at The Met Lounge with their frantic electro-rock show.

Friday, December 21 – The Brays played a sold-out show to 250 people at the Radius venue to launch their new single.
