Walking into the record books
PUPILS are limbering up for an attempt at a world walking record.
PUPILS are limbering up for an attempt at a world walking record. The youngsters of Gunthorpe Primary School, Peterborough, are set to join 100,000 other children across the UK tomorrow who will all be walking at 10am in the name of road safety.
They also hope the turnout will be large enough to secure a place in the Guinness Book of Records.
The move comes as part of a road safety awareness project the school is taking part in, and the walk around the school field will also double up as a fund-raiser for the road safety charity Brake.
Teacher Kim Reid, who is in charge of the school travel plan, said: “In the week leading up to the event the children will take part in lessons educating them about road safety.
“They will then produce posters and banners to hold up as they walk.
“We will also have a select number of pupils will be walking outside the school holding banners to encourage drivers to slow down.
“It should be a fun event, with a serious message.”
