A MAN who left Peterborough for a new life on the other side of the world more than 30 years ago is hoping to recreate the best days of his life at a Scout reunion he is arranging nextmonth.Terry Blacker, a former Scout in the 40th Soke of Peterborough New England Scout Group, is preparing to return to Peterborough from Brisbane, Australia, next month.

When Terry (60) arrives back in the city, he says he is hoping to arrange a reunion of his fellow former Scouts.

The group used to meet in a building at the rear of a church in Lincoln Road, New England, but was disbanded in the ’70s.

As well as being a member, Terry was also a leader at the group.

Speaking from his home Down Under, Terry said: “I can honestly say the years spent as a Scout were some of the best times in my life.

“I joined as a Cub, aged eight, in 1956, became a Scout, then a Senior Scout.

“Together with my mate Dave Cliffe, at the age of 17, and after completing the required proficiency badges, we were both awarded the Queen’s Scout Award.

“I believe we were the very first Senior Scouts in the group’s history to achieve the award.

“We both attended the Queen’s Scout reception – with the Queen in attendance – at Gilwell Park, London (the UK Scout Association’s headoffice), along with a few hundred other recipients from around the world.

“I have very fond memories of my time in the group. let’s hope some of the old boys can come along to the long overdue reunion.”

nAny former members of the Scout group who would like to attend the reunion should e-mail Terry at smiine@bigpond.com
