Cyclists warned to lock up bikes

POLICE have asked residents to keep their bikes locked up, as cycle thefts are still a problem in the area.

POLICE have asked residents to keep their bikes locked up, as cycle thefts are still a problem in the area.Neighbourhood Pc Andy Toma said: “Most of these thefts are of bicycles that are still being left insecure outside shops. But we have also had a couple of incidents where locks have been cut with bolt croppers.

“If you see anything suspicious, please call the police with as much information as possible.”

Award-winning comic at venue

LAUGHS aplenty will be had at The Cresset, on Saturday, November 15, when an award-winning comedian takes the stage.

Panel show favourite Rich Hall will be appearing from 8pm.

With appearances at the Edinburgh Fringe and as a guest on BBC shows QI, Never Mind The Buzzcocks and Room 101 under his belt, Bretton is his next stop.

Trust runs group for new mums

BUMPS and Babes is a new support group being run in Netherton by the National Childbirth Trust (NCT).

It is open to all pregnant women and parents with babies under a year old, and is a mixture of chat, play and post-natal support.

The group meets every Tuesday, from 1pm to 2.30pm, at St Jude’s Church Hall, in Cranford Drive. nFor more information about the NCT, call 08704 214497.

Your chance to donate blood

THE National Blood Service will be calling again in the city west area.

People wishing to give a pint of blood can do so in Studio 2, at The Cresset, in the Bretton Centre. There is no need to book.

There are two sessions, on Tuesday, November 11.

The first will run from 9.45am until 12.15pm and the second session will be from 2pm until 4.15pm.

Annual meeting for bowls club

BRETTON and District Bowls Club is holding its annual meeting at the Tydesdale Centre.

The evening will begin at 7pm, on Friday.

Secretary George Turner said: “After the usual business, there will be presentation of prizes to the winners and runners-up of the club competitions, followed by light refreshments.”
