FREE taster sessions to learn baby sign language are taking place at Central Library in Broadway this month.
FREE taster sessions to learn baby sign language are taking place at Central Library in Broadway this month.The sessions have been organised by First Signs and take place on July 21, as a preview to full courses due to start in Parnwell during September.
Organisers believe baby sign language can help youngsters express their wants and needs, as well as helping to develop language skills.
First Signs teacher, Jackie Fewtrell said: “With the use of signs, babies can express themselves and communicate roughly a year earlier than they would usually. Signing can start at about eight months, with most children not speaking until they are almost two years old.
“It helps to limit the frustrations babies can experience, as they can tell their parents and carers what they want.
“The taster sessions give people an idea of what to expect on the full course in September. I’ll explain about what baby signing involves and how to start the process.
“We’ll be doing a few songs with actions, that help everyone to interact. I try to do songs that are a bit different to keep things interesting.”
The taster sessions are free of charge, and start at 11am.
