The name sounds full of promise - so Bollywood Nights which opened this week might be a venue to look out for.
The man behind the venture is Walter MackIntosh, who until earlier this year owned and ran the more than decent Indian Chef takeaway on Lincoln Road, at Walton, so he certainly knows a thing or two about authentic Asian cuisine - I can vouch for that.
He has opened for business in New Road, underneath the TravelLodge in the premises that a couple of years ago was Latinos. And it is fair to say it is a welcome addition to the city centre given Indian restaurants are in short supply.
The place certainly looks the part - very modern, stylish and spacious - and with chefs sourced in India, Walter is offering tastes to match. Indeed the name was chosen to reflect the origins of the cuisine rather than anything to do with high-energy entertainment.
He’s looking to pick up a bit of lunchtime trade from the nearby office workers and of an evening and weekend offer a relaxed place for families to dine.
And the layout certainly looks like it will lend itself to that. It can seat more than 100 diners but there’s still plenty of room.
“I think we will be providing something a little bit different to what is on offer,” said Walter. “We have created a nice place that we want to be friendly and relaxed, and a place families can come and enjoy a nice meal.
“We have got a clay oven so the meat will be full of goodness, not fat, and we won’t be using pastes or colouring - all the food will be cooked with fresh spices which makes a big difference to the taste, of course.”
