Preview: Mirth, music and muscles at the Cresset for spring 2010
THERE'S plenty of laughs to be had in the new year season at Peterborough's Cresset, making it one of its best line-ups ever.
THERE'S plenty of laughs to be had in the new year season at Peterborough's Cresset, making it one of its best line-ups ever. From king of comedy Jimmy Carr to Julian Clary, via welshman Rhod Gilbert, the Bretton theatre is going over the odds to bring the very best there is.
The fun kicks off with Jimmy Carr's Rapier Wit this evening.
The show sold out long in advance, so if you aren't one of the lucky ticket holders, then you'll have to wait for his next appearance - he loves Peterborough, so it shouldn't be too long.
In February, one of the favourites is back in Rhod Gilbert and The Cat that Looked Like Nicholas Lyndhurst. So has the Welsh wonder got an anger management problem? Head along and find out.
King of the one-liner Tim Vine, The Joke-amotive, will have you rolling in the aisles with his brand new stand-up show on February 20.
And later in the month, Julian Clary, Lord of the Mince, will be on stage. Julian is celebrating 25 years in the camp spotlight, and shares his feat at turning 50.
The Cresset is fast becoming the place to be for comedy as big names from the comedy circuit and television stop off to tickle Peterborough audiences with their humour.
Other comics include Roy Chubby Brown on March 25; John Bishop on April 20; Katy Brand on April 22; Sean Lock on April 25 and Reginald D Hunter on June 24.
Top-rated children's show Show Me Chris and Pui will also delight youngsters when CBeebies favourite double-act Chris Jarvis and Pui Fan Lee bring their new roadshow to the Cresset, packed with songs, games and surprises.
It's not all about the laughs though, as the Cresset has also booked a wide variety of musical and variety acts.
From Jane McDonald's diva delights, to rock bands, old favourites and The Chippendales - there truly is something lined up for everyone.
Billed entertainment at its best, Jane McDonald combines music and laughter to wow audiences with her repertoire of popular songs.
Since finding stardom on TV documentary series The Cruise, the down-to-earth diva has had a number one album, starred in the West End and is a regular panellist with her own no-nonsense opinions on ITV's Loose Women.
But it's singing that Jane loves best.
The Chippendales parade into view on February 8 with the perfect balance of sex appeal and tasteful teasing. It's the ultimate girls night out with live music, dancing and fantasy, creating a non-stop party atmosphere.
And just days after their planned EP release, Los Angeles-based five piece Iglu & Hartly hit Peterborough. Last time they were in the UK, they entertained with a shirtless performance on The Jonathan Ross Show, two sold-out tours and a top five single. Watch out for fireworks on February 2.
Don't forget other events including Billy Ocean, Northern Soul and Motown Night, Encore Dance Galore and the Cresset Wedding Show live.
