Choirs have a lot of front for cathedral

THREE outstanding choirs join forces at Peterborough Cathedral tomorrow to raise vital funds for the restoration work to the cathedral's west front.Guests will be treated to an array of soothing summer sounds from the Peterborough Choral Society, Southfield Junior School Choir (as featured on BBC Songs of Praise) and a group all the way from Buckinghamshire – The Wycombe Orpheus Male Voice Choir.

With a fantastic evening of popular classics lined up such as Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Memory, the iconic You Raise Me Up and Brahms’ How Lovely Are Thy Dwellings, this is set to be an evening of soaring musical heights raising money for restoration work on the cathedral’s north west tower.

Visitors will also have the chance to dine prior to the event in the cathedral cloisters with wine and seasonal nibbles arranged by event sponsors, The Park Inn Peterborough.

All money raised from the concert will be vital in securing the extra 60,000 required to finish the final phase of the cathedral’s largest ongoing conservation work.

Fund-raising manager for the cathedral Canon Richard Cattle said: “We have been overwhelmed by the support for this final phase of the project and are delighted that these three outstanding choirs have decided to join forces in an extremely generous bid to help.

“As with all projects of this length, it is sometimes a challenge to keep the public’s interest until the end, but we are so close to finishing the restoration of our beautiful west front that it would be such a real tragedy if we were unable to find the funds from somewhere to complete this final phase.”

Tickets cost 10. Call 01733 452336 or visit the Peterborough Tourist Information Centre. Pre-event hospitality tickets cost an extra 7.50.

The concert starts at 7.30pm.
