Following a visit to the Key Theatre last night to see a production of Dream Nights by the Key Youth Theatre (KYT), I and my guests, and I would like to say a big thank-you to all the staff and particularly to the young people in the cast.
It is so good to see these young people enjoying themselves, entertaining others and channelling their energies in such a positive direction.

The KYT seeks to provide a professional environment for young performers to develop their skills and help
set them up for progression to drama schools, and potentially professional careers. They are rightly proud of their work with young performers over the years, and they currently have at least one ex-member appearing in the West End and another half a dozen or so working on major national tours. Many more have established themselves as working actors, directors, writers, stage managers, musicians and producers.

I sincerely trust and hope that the development of the Key's new studio theatre facilities will provide even more opportunities to showcase the work of KYT from 2009.

Not such a larvae-ly thing - maggots in the bin
Please find attached a pic of maggots in my wheelie bin. The usual summertime situation.

At the time of the last election, I asked all the candidates from each main party if they would support a return to weekly collections, not one would do so. So much for local democracy, we didn't get a vote on this arrangement and can't have one.

While I understand the landfill argument, it seems to me that this is more about saving the council money than saving the environment, as every time I go to the tip the queues of cars taking their excess rubbish must be creating more pollution than the bin lorries would even with weekly collections. How long before the council introduces a charge for using the tip?

Perhaps the ET would take it up and shame our local "elected" representatives into providing us with the refuse service we all pay for?

Jim Stowe -
We had an independent candidate in our last local election who made a return to weekly bin collections a key priority.
Also, in the neigbouring ward a year earlier, there was an independent candidate calling for a return to weekly collections.
Sadly, neither was elected.
The problem is two fold - (1) hardly anybody bothers to vote and those who don't are the ones who later complain the loudest and (2) people blindly vote for party names and not the policies they stand for
