I love going into the city centre with my mates, especially when I actually have money. But like the idea of bad singers or people playing loud and annoying instruments in the square, I don't think putting an opera singer in the middle of the city is going to get more people into town apart from the five per cent of the population that actually seem to like the singers or bands in the centre of town.
The other weekend, I was walking around town with my friends, as you do, and I got the biggest headache after standing in the square for about five minutes while some man behind started playing the bag pipes right near me. Now I appreciate that maybe he wants to earn some money or something, but does he have to really play the bagpipes? I know this sounds rude, but to me all bagpipes are is mindless noises.

I found myself later on that I had probably the worst headache I've ever had, and I walk out of Queensgate to find that he was standing outside playing the same tune as he was earlier. My point is that if you really need money that badly you're prepared to stand there for 75 per cent of your day trying to earn money, why don't you get a job for your Saturdays?

If you want to sing you should do it somewhere enclosed, and then if people want to hear you sing I'm sure they will come and find you. Therefore, I think that most of the singers in town should stop coming to the city centre and singing or playing their instrument I don't think that 80 per cent of the population that are in town actually appreciate this noise and it should just stop. If you are a good singer then by all means I have nothing against you, but if you're playing a very loud instrument or a very bad singer, please feel free to not play in our city centre... please.

MP doling out usual platitudes
Our MP states in his column that some people on the dole can afford to spend money at the betting office.

Dole money is very low, and I suspect that anyone who does this is almost certainly also working illegally.

When he accuses the Government of not honouring commitments to ghurkhas, he fails to say that under the Tories no ghurkhas at all were allowed the right to settle in this country.

The Government has honoured its only commitment, which was to allow ghurka ex-servicemen previously based in the UK, to settle here.

I believe that in previous columns he has argued against any extra immigrants being allowed in.

He changes opinions like the wind, for electoral advantage, I think.

An ex-banker from the city of London criticizing people on the dole is a bit rich. We are having to pay well over £100 billion to bail out bankers who have been living off fat bonuses for years.

Planners slow down the city
Please can someone explain to me why having taken a train journey to get from London King's Cross to Peterborough, which takes approximately 50 minutes, a distance of approximately 70 miles, it then takes me 35 minutes to travel from the station to Hampton and Yaxley by car?

Are the town planners crazy?

First they get London Road bridge complete, new traffic lights, new road system, and all working great.

i work 44 hr weeks and dont earn brill money, but enough to feed the family, pay mortgage and clothe them, and maybe have a bit spare for luxuries, people on the dole get rent paid council tax paid and then get benefit for the rest, how can they afford to smoke drink, and gamble.i cant...!,they should stop giving them money, and give them food vouchers,pre-payment cards for gas and electric, thats why they dont want to work, everything is there for them on a plate.work-fare,in usa they have to work for the government to gain welfare payments, and if they have children the welfare payments will only be for one child.

Mr Knowles, who is having to pay all the money to bail out the bankers? I was led to believe that the burdon would fall on the taxpayers. Around 47% of the average income is already taken up in taxes - largely thanks to the vast amount of slealth taxes this government has introduced - so what will that need to rise to now? And how did many of those bankers become 'fat'? Oh, that'll be the government's 'throw as much money as you can at people and let them pay on the never, never' policies of the last few years.
Living on benefits is now so lucrative that it has become a lifestyle choice for many. It seems to be the average working person who is struggling most and never seems to qualify for any help.
..... Yep, so that'll be the very type of person that your party says it's there to support!

JSA is £59 a week. Yes there is housing benefit - millions being wasted to go into the pockets of private landlords - many of our Tory Councillors are shooddy landlords. Labour has been running a welfare for work line for several years. Most pepople on benefits are on disability some 7% in Peterborough compared to less than 3% on JSA, with less than 2% being single parents. How many of those on disability are able to work. Read the letter and look at the facts before you put stuff on here please you tory nerds. John was having a pop at the MP being a banker etc. There are lazy people on the dole in Peterborough (more than most places)- did you see the TV programme about the Poles taking jobs our chavs would not. They should be made to work or have benefits stopped. John makes the point many must be on the fiddle. that was the tory line if you could get away with it, fiddle your tax, benefits and play the markets. There are also some people having real problems getting a job, or who have just been made redundant, they should be helped to get back to work and yes Labour will help thjm pay the mortage and feed the family while they look for work. we will also continue to create more opportunities and jobs - 1 million new jobs under labour. the tories created umempoluyment and massaged the figures by getting job seekers to go onto disability benefits.
If you have a mobility, hearing or health problem given the right job and support you can still work and should. But if you have to drive to work in town or shop the Tory council wants you to pay to park. The tory council are dumming down our town there schools are failing and the jobs they are bringing here are low skill low pay. We need to have high value jobs and get boro workers skilled up. What skills do the bankers have, the gamble on markets and in the USA are being chased by the FBI... Some bankers and some tories are corrupt. May are not but most are greedy.

Most of the people who comment on "benefit culture" have never tried surviving on benefits and get all their "facts" through hearsay (or other unreliable sources like The Daily Mail). Maybe people should worry more about their own incomes and stop whining about what other people are getting - it's none of your business!

Also, instead of always condeming the benefits system why don't we ask why employment isn't preferable - the wages in this area are shocking - especially for part-time workers - the minimum wage is much too low, not enforced as rigerously as it should be and fails to take into account the cost of living and the area in which a worker lives. Maybe it's time for employers to act more responsibly and treat employees as they deserve to be treated - if you pay bad wages you deserve sloppy work in return!

Both Nu-Labia and the Tories are about as much use as a 4art in a Cullinder.

They have proven it time and time again. so a vote for either of those parties is a wasted vote.

This time I'm voting UkIp.

Laughing ?

In no way can they possibly do any worse than the previous showers of ****
