Re the latest announcement (City post offices facing the axe – now have your say – ET July 8) regarding several further local post offices being earmarked for closure.
I wanted to ask your readers to lend their support to our campaign, www.savecambspostoffices.org.uk
Readers have seven weeks in which to express their thoughts on the Government's proposals.
Peterborough Liberal Democrats wants to help those people who live in either Woodston, New England or West Town and that's why we launched the campaign.
While other political parties have stood still or only reacted when it suited them, the Liberal Democrats have been campaigning for several years, arguing and fighting against the Government's proposed closures.
As recently as March 11, a delegation of Liberal Democrat MPs and campaigners handed in to Downing Street a petition signed by over 50,000 people calling on the Government to keep post offices open.
Did you know that the previous Labour MP voted against holding a debate on Post Office closures in the House of Commons in 2003?
While the two present Conservatives now oppose the closures, their party shut 3,500 post offices when they were in office and, as always, they have no serious proposals to revive the post office network.
In contrast to the Tories, the Lib Dems have a properly thought-through and costed programme, which would deliver £2 billion of additional resources to keep post offices open and, where necessary, open others.
Even the Conservative-controlled council has stuck the boot into the post office locally. Last year they did their bit by snatching responsibility for their second class post from the Post Office and passing it to a private sector company.
Our website acts as a resource for residents seeking to learn more about post office closures.

Support the ET's Hands Off Our Post Office campaign: www.peterboroughtoday.co.uk/handsoffourpostofficesThe moaners should shut up, Rocky Horror was a great nightI have to state my disappointment when I opened The ET today, for the lack of support for the city's festival at a time when the full programme should be celebrated and its success story told.
I was amongst the crowd at the Rocky Horror event on Saturday, and I must say I thought it was marvellous.
How refreshing for our city to have a quirky event like this – all as part of the city's festival.
Unfortunately, my wife, my party and I could not get into the indoor screening, but we had had a great night, meeting other fans and experiencing a great warm-up show.
One of the best I have seen.
The change was clearly explained – and is something we should bear in mind with one-off events.
I wish those groaners could have realised that the city is experimenting and trying new things. I am sure they would be the first to moan when nothing would happen.
Well done to the festival – it has made me proud to be living in Peterborough. We all look forward to next year.

Editor's note: Reporting on the news is a key role of The Evening Telegraph – and this particular incident was newsworthy.
As for the festival itself, The Evening Telegraph devoted several pages to previewing the festival and several more over the course of a week to coverage of events.
Indeed on Monday the editorial comment praised the organisers for what they had delivered.
