The strikes held this week by council workers are despicable in light of current economic hardship.
Arguments that a 2.4 per cent wage rise is "tantamount to a wage cut" are diabolical, considering my family of three live off £8,000 a year.
These people simply do not understand what they are doing to the national and local economy when they ask for wage rises in line with the now exponential inflation figures which stood at 3.8 per cent last month, and many have predicted will rise further to 6 per cent by the end of the year.
We are all trying to tighten our belts, but it is far easier to do so if you have a decent wage coming in.
These people have jobs, which is more than many can say, and they should be more grateful for it.
The more our wages rise collectively, the more shops will raise their prices to take in more money and this may lead to a domestic rise in inflation akin to the '70s, which none of us wants to see.

As a former sub-postmistress in Great Gidding, I think it's disgraceful that this particular branch is under threat.
There has been a post office in this village for more than 100 years, serving the community and surrounding areas.
The next post offices are in Sawtry – about five or six miles away, Oundle and Stilton – about six or seven miles away.
I do not see how Post Office Ltd can say there is another branch within one mile of those which are due to close.
The Government appears to be intent on creating ghost villages, because post offices (and shops) are their mainstays.
