I WRITE further to recent comments made in regard to the "proposals" for 850-plus houses for North Bretton, Peterborough.
After attending the recent Bretton Parish Council meeting, it is very noticeable that 10 of the 19 councillors are quite open about being Conservative in their political persuasion.
Now there is nothing wrong with that in principle, but this does
tie in neatly with Peterborough City Council, and is, of course, a benefit to the council when it comes to influencing any future Bretton proposals, policies and plans – such as those we in Bretton are now fully aware of . . . well, unless something additional creeps out of the woodwork that we haven't also been informed of.
But surely if these councillors were working for the good of Bretton, they shouldn't be linking themselves to a political party? they would be – as only six seem to be – independent.
As we now know, recent proposals have been drawn up at great expense to the taxpayer, and until Mr Cave's open meeting at the Pyramid Centre last week were not for our eyes. this was proved at Tuesday's meeting (by Mr Cave) from the minutes of the Bretton 2010 "inception meeting", stating that "it was agreed that no further community consultation would form part of this study".
However, being a trusting soul, and after attending Tuesday night's Bretton Parish Council meeting, we were assured by the chairman that the parish council was not in favour of these, and would work with us to avoid these proposals coming to fruition.
Strange then, that two members of the parish council, along with our all of our North Bretton Conservative city councillors, were part of the the Bretton 2010 group who devised these initiatives in "workshop sessions", prior to the city council supposedly hijacking the content before the final document had even been approved.
