Letters: Queue's the problem Paula? 03/05/2008
I felt compelled to put my views across in response to the comments made by councillor Paula Thacker regarding parents parking in Eastfield cemetery.
I am really bemused with the comments that have been made, as I myself sometimes park in the cemetery when i take my daughter to school.
Most of the time we walk to school via the cemetery. The new system works well and was a good compromise.
On the whole it is adhered to. Yes, there have been a few times when i have seen people drive out through the no entry signs, but, 99 per cent of the time, they are cemetery visitors.
As for children running over the graves, i have never seen this happening in the two years my daughter has been at the school.
The only times I have witnessed the gates being blocked at the cemetery is when Cllr Thacker herself obstructed the entrance with her car, then waited for a line of cars to queue up so she could take some photographs, and when she decided to verbally put across her views to the parents who were parking their cars.
The new system means that Newark hill has no problems like some other schools do with parking.
The children are safer and drivers can get back on Eastfield road safer through the new exit rather than the old one, which is next to the traffic lights.
