RE: Fountains in Cathedral Square idea.
Obviously the city council and planners have too much money and don't know what to do with it.

What a hairbrained scheme it is to put fountains in Cathedral Square.
The only people to benefit, if benefit is the right word, is unruly children and
late night revellers – they will have a field day.

I am Peterborian and remember well the old Cathedral Square when a market was held there regularly.

There was a fountain there then, but when it was "modernised" it was moved to the Bishops Gardens. Perhaps now is a good time to bring it back where it belongs so everyone can see it?

Surely the money saved can be put to good use by, perhaps, having seating in the green areas of Peterborough, by the cycle paths so people can sit and appreciate the area and quietness – areas such as Orton Wistow and Longthorpe.

Criminals should be hit in the pocket
RE: Recycling Drug dens (ET, April 26)
I think it is an excellent idea, and perhaps other police forces will do the same.
The more these low-lifes are hit in the pocket
perhaps they will eventually get the message that crime does not pay.
When they are arrested, they should be given a sentence that fits the crime and made to work while they are in prison. Then, once their sentence is completed, if they are not legally here as most appear to be, they should be deported without further ado.

Roads don't kill people, drivers do
ONCE again I am writing in defence of the North Bank road, in fact in all roads.
The roads are not the problem, it is the people that use them.
My experience of the North Bank at 8.30am is that a few alarm clocks need setting earlier. Also, I wonder what some people have between their ears that makes them drive the way they do.
Finally, I feel that barriers could be an answer, but may cause more casualties than they save.

Rocking all over the world
Two years ago, with my husband, I managed to go to every Status Quo concert on their UK winter tour, a total of 31 concerts in six weeks. I met so many people that had stories to tell about their experiences of seeing Status Quo.
As a result, I am compiling a book of people's memories for a book entitled Goin' Quoin' Past and Present.
I am interested in hearing from anyone who has seen Status Quo from the '60s right up to the present day. As the band have been performing for more that 40 years now this would be an ideal opportunity to record all those memories.
All the proceeds from the book are going to The Shona Smile Foundation (www.shonassmile.org).
I would be very grateful for any contribution readers could send me, either at the address below or by
e-mail to yvonnehanvey@aol.com
