THE hearts of our readers will undoubtedly go out to Leann and Dean Thompson today because they are having to face the awful fact that their 15-month-old twins are likely to die before their fourth birthdays.
There can surely be no more cruel twist of fate than knowing that both their babies have a condition that defies the best medical science in the world. It seems that nothing can be done to prevent sisters Lydia and Ella losing their sight and hearing
and then being paralysed by the devastating effects of little-known Tay-Sachs Disease (TSD).

The heartache these parents must be enduring is beyond imagining, yet they are focused on doing everything they can to make life for the little girls as happy as possible.

They want to pay for bathroom adaptations, special car seats and a sensory room and have already raised £10,500 with Dean and friends now taking part in a coast-to-coast bike ride to boost that by another £6,000. The couple say they have already been touched by the kindness of strangers, but we are sure many more people will want to help in this heartbreaking situation.

Teacher Claire's a shining example

Claire has just been named best Special Needs Teacher of the Year in the East of England, which is no surprise considering what she has achieved at her Wisbech school.
