IIT'S great to see some good coming out of an appalling number of city homes being turned into cannabis factories.
In a brilliant piece of public relations, police have handed over tons of confiscated materials, that were used to grow the plants, to worthy causes like community garden projects and schools where pupils are growing their own food crops.
For ins
tance, the compost, fertiliser and garden canes have helped youngsters at Werrington Primary School to harvest beans, potatoes, strawberries and leaks. A much healthier crop than the cannabis it was intended to grow to further the ill-gotten gains of vile drug dealers.
In a nice touch, DC Shanie Nayar, who has been leading the police raids, even dropped in to try some of the produce – doubtless to the delight of the children.
Despite the success of the police in busting these factories, it seems that more just keep on springing up. Obviously the criminal kingpins behind this operation feel they can afford to take a few losses because they are making such obscene profits, and they don't care if some hapless minions, who were left to look after the plants, are caught. Hopefully, their luck will run out and we'll see an end to this scourge soon.
